My name is Kendra Schierning and I lead the Pihinga (Year 1 and 2) team at Flanshaw Road School. I am originally from a farm near Matamata but have been a Te Atatū local for a number of years now. I live with my husband, my two sons, and our two cats Sammy and Maggie. I love swimming, walking and camping in the great outdoors. I think West Auckland is amazing. I see Year 1 and 2 as a foundation time – a time for students to really get to grips with reading, writing and number. This can be hard work for tamariki, but very helpful if they can lay the foundations now. We feel very privileged in Pihinga Team, to have such a settled team of wonderful staff. We run a Garden to Table type rotation once a week, sports rotations and arts rotations. We capitalise on teacher strengths in this way.
